How long has Portland School of Music & Dance been established?
Portland School of Music & Dance began in August 2014, but merged with MusicWerks Studio which was established in 2001 as the first and most successful school in NE Portland with 3 locations!

What instruments do you teach?
We offer all instruments and voice from ages 3 through adult.

Who are your teachers?
All teachers at Portland School of Music & Dance are professional educators with music degrees. Many of our teachers can teach more than one instrument and are active in the local music scene.

When do lessons begin and when they do end?
Typically lessons begin the Monday following Labor Day in September and end early to mid June, depending on the Portland Public School Calendar. We follow the PPS calendar for scheduling and closures.

Why do you have multiple websites?
Because MusicWerks has been established for the last 15 years, many people still look this site first. The information is the same on both websites with different formatting.

Do you provide summer lessons or summer camps?
Yes, both! Portland School of Music & Dance provides summer lessons ‘a la carte’ – you book the days and times you want to fit with your summer schedule. We highly encourage students to get as many lessons as possible, even if it is just a handful for summer. It is great to be able to keep those piano fingers nimble and some of their songs playable!

Why is my tuition the same in a month when my child only has two lessons?
Portland School of Music & Dance structures the lesson year in a Building Block Style. Each lesson is an individual building block designed to create a strong musical foundation. Therefore, tuition is based on a yearly fee, indicating a commitment to study for the entire school year. Tuition includes the teacher’s total involvement as a music educator as well as time spent in lessons. Tuition payments are NOT based upon the number of lessons (whether 2, 3, 5, etc.) in a given month. Tuition is based upon the total number of lessons during the school year. The amount of all lessons is then totaled and then divided by 9 EQUAL Payments with a pro-rated amount applied for June. If students start mid-year every client is given an individual assessment of the total number of lessons they will be able to participate in and will be billed accordingly

Do you offer scholarships or financial assistance?
Currently, we don’t offer any scholarships or financial assistance; however, we are in the process of creating a scholarship program based on the needs of our community. Please contact us for more information.

Are there training materials, such as books or sheet music, that you recommend/provide?
Your teacher will assess your ability and experience and recommend music based on that assessment. We have an in-house library of materials and music books available for purchase. We work hard to provide books at sheet music that is relevant and affordable and will never overburden a student with too many materials or music.
